What’s your favourite thing about doing business out of Toronto?

A relatively friendly and intimate business environment where even competitors are willing to share ideas and try new things in the name of innovation.

What is the one thing you’d like to see the City of Toronto accomplish for businesses in 2018?

The “smart city” plans and development of our waterfront to create community, business and technology opportunities and show leadership as a modern city. I also look forward to seeing more public charging stations for electric cars. Tesla is working hard on adding these and educating property managers on the benefits. This is the future. Our city needs to get on board. Lastly, more round table events where business owners can come together to share ideas.

What is the one buzzword or trend you’d like to see die in 2018?

Trend: Kale. It’s just furry spinach. Buzzword/Phrase: “Think out of the box” – what box? Who put a box around thinking? Why are people still saying this? It’s just not a thing.

What is your favourite curse word?

BALLS! It feels so great to throw your head back and yell out “BALLS!”. I also like MOFO. Sounds like a friendly nickname you would give a buddy or your little brother “This is my MOFO”. But still a great swear word that rolls off the tongue.

Where do you go in Toronto when you need to focus and allow your mind to work through complex business challenges?

Soho House or my own office in the Distillery (Matt as my former neighbour in our building you know!). The strong stone walls, fireplace, some good music, me curled up in one of our office fur beanbag chairs – with an old fashioned notebook – brings out the best ideas and solutions.
